How to visit Disney in 1 Day
Imagine a city dedicated entirely to Disney magic. That’s Walt Disney World. With four theme parks, two water parks, and a bustling shopping and dining district, you could spend weeks exploring. But fear not, even a single day can be packed with wonder. All you need is a little pixie dust and a well-crafted plan.
This is a comparision between Disney world and New York!
While seeing everything at Walt Disney World in a single day is challenging, it’s certainly possible. To help you make the most of your time, we’ve created a plan to maximize your Disney experience.
Option 1: you want to pack in as much as possible!
Given our time constraints, we’ll need to be strategic about our spending. Naturally, a shorter visit will require a higher daily budget compared to a longer trip. Let’s prioritize our expenses to make the most of our time.
To maximize your Disney World experience, consider purchasing a single-day Park Hopper ticket. This ticket grants you access to all four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. While the more expensive Park Hopper Plus ticket includes water park access, it’s not necessary for a one-day visit. To enhance your experience and minimize wait times, be sure to add Genie+, the paid line-skipping service, to your ticket.
Where do we Start?
To make the most of your day, we’ll start bright and early, aiming to enter the park at rope drop (when it opens). Plan for a long day, as we’ll stay until after the Magic Kingdom fireworks. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes!
We’ll begin our adventure at Animal Kingdom, as it typically opens earliest. If the park opens at 8 AM, be prepared to arrive at least 30 minutes early. Once inside, head straight for Kilimanjaro Safaris. Many animals are more active in the morning and evening, so this is a great way to start your day. For Expedition Everest—Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, consider using the single rider line if the regular wait is too long.
Next, we’ll head to Hollywood Studios. Using Genie+, book a Lightning Lane entry for a ride. Prioritize Slinky Dog Dash if possible, but if it’s unavailable, consider Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway or Toy Story Mania.
Genie+ can be a bit confusing at first, but it’s a valuable tool for maximizing your time. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Booking: You can book one Lightning Lane every two hours, either after using a previous Lightning Lane or two hours after your last booking.
- Stacking: If you book a Lightning Lane for a ride with a long wait, book another one immediately after scanning in. This allows you to book another one two hours later, even if you haven’t used the first one yet.
- Evening Strategy: Start booking evening Lightning Lanes early in the day to minimize wait times during peak hours.
Remember, setting a timer can be a lifesaver to keep track of your two-hour booking window.
For a delightful late afternoon and early evening, head to EPCOT. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere, savoring delectable dishes from around the world at the various food kiosks. Whether it’s the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival in the spring or the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival in the fall, you’ll find a plethora of culinary delights to tantalize your taste buds. As you indulge in these gastronomic adventures, don’t forget to experience the thrilling rides and captivating shows that EPCOT has to offer.
Embark on a thrilling adventure with Soarin’ Around the World, meet the adorable Figment in Journey into Imagination, and immerse yourself in Frozen Ever After and Test Track (using the single rider lane). If you have the opportunity, don’t miss Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. However, be aware that the free virtual queue can result in wait times of up to an hour. Optimize your one-day visit to EPCOT.
As night falls, head to Magic Kingdom. Experience the magic of Main Street, especially during the nightly fireworks spectacular, Happily Ever After. Don’t miss classic rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, and the newly rethemed Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Pro tip: If you’re still in a ride queue when the park closes, you can still ride!
Option 2: Big Ticket Rides are your Highest Priority!
We’ll follow the same park-hopping itinerary: Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom. But this time, we’re starting with a bang: rope dropping Avatar Flight of Passage. Once inside each park, we’ll immediately purchase Individual Lightning Lanes for the top attractions.
Secure Individual Lightning Lanes for two must-do rides: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios for early afternoon and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT for late afternoon. Remember, you’re limited to two Individual Lightning Lanes per day, so choose wisely! Consider prioritizing these over an evening ride on TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom.
Once you’ve booked those top-tier attractions, purchase Genie+ for either Slinky Dog Dash in Hollywood Studios or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom. These popular coasters often have long wait times, and Genie+ will help you secure a shorter return time, likely later in the day.
While EPCOT officially opens at 9 AM, many parts of the World Showcase don’t come alive until 11 AM. This early morning lull is a great opportunity to tackle the rides, but it means you’ll miss out on the delicious food offerings. If rides are your priority, head to EPCOT and experience Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and the charming Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
No matter which park you choose as your second stop, the Skyliner is a fantastic way to hop between them. This aerial gondola offers breathtaking views and a unique Disney experience.
At Hollywood Studios, be sure to explore Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and experience the thrill of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
For your final stop, head to the iconic Magic Kingdom. Whether you’re coming from EPCOT via Monorail or another park by shuttle, you’ll be rewarded with a magical evening. Enjoy the iconic fireworks show and take advantage of the lighter crowds and shorter lines. If you’re lucky enough to have a virtual queue spot for TRON Lightcycle/Run, prepare for an even more thrilling nighttime experience.
